Aillwee Cave is Ireland’s Premier Showcave — a really unique location in the Burren. One of the oldest caves in the Burren, if not all of Ireland. Aillwee Cave’s narrative began millions of years ago when the landscape looked substantially different from what we see today. They began to form when subsurface waters on Aillwee Mountain began dissolving channels via weak spots in the limestone. The cave’s oldest history is preserved on its roof. Their knowledgeable tour guides will accompany you into stunning caves, over spanned chasms, through strange formations, and alongside thunderous waterfalls. Explore their hibernation chambers of long-extinct brown bears and marvel at the frozen waterfall. Follow there walk up to Aillwee Mountain to see Europe’s largest rock garden and learn about the Burren’s natural abundance and diversity. Take a stroll around the Hazel Wood, a working forest where the hazel trees are managed using the coppicing technique.
