Welcome to Wicklow
Wicklow, or Cill Mhantáin in Irish, is a seaport and county capital in Wicklow County, Ireland, south-southeast of Dublin. In the fifth century, St. Mantan constructed a church there.
The Wicklow Mountains are so large that they can’t be contained within the county’s limits; their granite summits extend into Dublin, Carlow, and Wexford. The Wicklow Mountains National Park, which covers 220 square kilometres and is home to the famous Glendalough monastery complex, is the largest of Ireland’s six national parks (see below). The Wicklow Way self-guided walking path, which passes through the mountains, was included in the 2015 book 1001 Walks You Must Do Before You Die.
