Return to the eighteenth century at Armagh Library! Make your way up to their elegant staircase after passing through the lovely Georgian front door. The Long Room of this classical library, which serves as the major visitor space, is bathed in light from exquisite windows. From floor to ceiling, the walls are adorned with rare and magnificent books.
In 1771, Archbishop Richard Robinson established their library in the centre of Armagh. He intended to share his own library and fine art collection with the entire population.
Their unique collections are still available for research today.
There are around 46,000 printed items in the collection. Medicine, science, history, law, politics, theology, and travel are among the topics covered. There are also antique and mediaeval coins, commemorative medals, sulphur jewels, prints, maps, and atlases, as well as manuscripts among the collections.
