Ballina Arts Centre is located in Ballina, Ireland, in the county of Mayo. Ballina has a population of up to 15,000 people in the city, with an additional 30,000 in the surrounding area. Much effort has gone into developing an arts centre for the area over the years. When the rebuilt Ballina Arts Centre opened its doors on Barrett St. in 2011, that ambition was realised.
Ballina has a rich cultural legacy that includes music and dance. A strong culture of young rock bands and singer-songwriters adds to this. Ballina Arts Centre’s growth provides assistance for visual artists by providing a visual arts space as well as a developing programme of artists’ workshops and masterclasses.
The Arts Council, Mayo County Council, Ballina Town Council, and a significant local contribution are among the project’s funders. Ballina has been recognised as an important locus to ensure that fair access to arts services is available throughout Mayo County, which covers significant geographic distances.
