Jonathan and Phoebe Wheeler, together with their three children, relocated from the city to Wicklow County in 1972 in search of a quieter, simpler existence. They began by growing vegetables and establishing an organic market garden, then progressed to raising organic cattle and lamb before purchasing the 50-acre farm near Ballinanty in 1984. Because the organic food industry was still in its infancy at the time, Jonathan began diversifying his business. Jonathan’s son Will, on the other hand, had an interest in collecting vintage bottles, which evolved into a collection of ancient agricultural equipment. In their leisure time, they scoured the countryside seeking lost and forgotten relics of an agricultural life that was slowly but steadily slipping away as modern farming became more mechanised and intensive.
