The Museum and its artefacts are situated in the historic Market House, a late-seventeenth-century structure that has undergone extensive renovations. The building’s ground floor was where the town’s merchants sold their wares and sought refuge, and it was also where John Wesley spoke in 1756 and 1789. Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the first-floor Assembly Rooms played a major part in Lisburn’s social and political life, hosting frequent soirees, balls, dance courses, and political meetings.
