The Lissadell Estate is the home of husband + wife Edward Walsh, Constance Cassidy and their seven children. They welcome visitors, during the season, to the house and grounds. They offer a guided tour of the house lasting 45 minutes. As you walk through the panorama, you’ll find the house as it was intended to be seen by the Architect, Francis Goodwin. Following the marbled hall (paved with Kilkenny marble), you will first visit the Billiard Room, then the Gallery (which offers a view of the Bow Room as famously described by W. B. Yeats); you will visit the Ante Room, the Drawing Room (from which you can again see the views through the “Great Windows open to the South” which enchanted the poet) and the Dining Room. Next you will proceed downstairs to the Kitchen, Servant’s Hall, pantries, wine cellar, china room, housekeeper’s room, butler’s room, the garden room, the contemporary literature room, the nursery room with children’s toys, and various other staff & work rooms. You will leave through the subway from the sunken courtyard, which leads visitors back up towards the Coach House, or down towards the Alpine Garden.
