The museum has many purposes: it serves as a starting point for learning Kilkenny’s mediaeval history, it displays Kilkenny’s Civic Treasures and reproductions of several of Ossory’s High Crosses, and it provides a venue for temporary exhibitions and cultural activities.
Built-in the 13th century, St Mary’s church and graveyard in Kilkenny is Ireland’s greatest example of a mediaeval church. It is the starting point for the Medieval Mile walk, which tells the narrative of Kilkenny’s role as Ireland’s most significant mediaeval city.
