The Rathcroghan experience includes a visit to the award-winning interpretative rooms, where guests can learn about Connacht’s ancient capital, Cruachan A, and it’s rich archaeological and historical heritage. Discover how your Iron Age and Medieval ancestors dressed, ate, lived, and what they believed in. Relive the legends of the Warrior Queen Medb and the Táin Bó Cuailnge, Ireland’s national epic.
The Enach Cruachain display, a collection of thirty-five objects unearthed in the mid-Roscommon area that had previously lived in the National Museum of Ireland, Kildare St. Dublin and were unavailable to the public, is housed in the interpretative rooms.
From there, tourists may explore Rathcroghan’s archaeological environment, which has been conserved in its original state. Begin with a tour of Medieval Tulsk before continuing on to Connacht’s Royal Site through the Slight Assail. There, you will be regaled with ancient Irish legends set in the area where they occurred. Your knowledgeable guide will interpret scientific studies done on these monuments to bring Ireland’s hidden past to life.
You’ll go to the summit of the spectacular Rathcroghan Mound to observe your Machaire Connacht dominion. At Oweynagat, those who dare can put themselves to the test by travelling down through the “Gates of Hell” and into the depths of the ground.
