Long before Oscar became renowned, his parents, Lady Jane Wilde (the poet Speranza) and Sir William Wilde were well-known. Guided House Tour
The Oscar Wilde House tour is accompanied by a house guide. The trip lasts around one hour and twenty minutes. You will learn about the intriguing history of the colourful Wilde family as you explore its rooms and stairs. Heartbreak, sorrow, intrigue, legal fights, and scandal are all part of the story.
You’ll see Sir William Wilde’s library and the upstairs dining room, where the Wilde family welcomed many renowned visitors over the course of a 20-year period. Lady Jane Wilde, alias Speranza, hosted her famous salons every Saturday in the main room, which overlooks Merrion Square. Sir William’s medical consulting room and a collection of devices he devised are housed in the expansion, which he built after the family moved into the property in 1854.
