Waterford Suir Valley Railway, a community heritage initiative, has reintroduced the romance of rail’s golden era to Kilmeadan. The abandoned Waterford Dungarvan line is now home to a historic narrow gauge railway that stretches for 10 kilometres.
Waterford Suir Valley Railway Company CLG was founded to preserve and promote Waterford’s historic railway history. The goal is to rehabilitate and manage as a tourist attraction a 10-kilometer stretch of the abandoned Waterford-Dungarvan Railway line from Kilmeadan Station to Bilberry, Waterford City. The aim is for the railway track to become a linear park, with the train serving other attractions along the way, ultimately reaching into Waterford City and running with a steam engine.
