Richard Dawson presents a very special solo set featuring material from his celebrated last album 2020 stripped down to its raw guitar-and-voice essence, plus live favourites taken from his back catalogue of albums including Peasant, The Glass Trunk and more. Released in 2019, 2020 was the sixth solo studio album from the black-humoured bard of Newcastle, an utterly contemporary state-of-the-nation study, that uncovers a tumultuous and bleak time.
Special guests Landless are Ruth Clinton, Meabh Meir, Sinead Lynch and Lily Power. They sing unaccompanied traditional songs from Irish, Scottish, English and American traditions in close four-part harmony. Their repertoire includes songs of death, love and lamentation, as well as work songs, shape-note hymns and more recently penned folk songs.
Landless have performed in a variety of settings, both in Ireland and abroad, and are closely involved with traditional singing sessions in Dublin and Belfast. Their debut album, Bleaching Bones (2018), was recorded by John ‘Spud’ Murphy in historic churches around Ireland and was described by Caught By The River as “an utter gem waiting to be treasured”. They are currently working on their follow up album also with Murphy at the helm is due out soon.
